Job summary

Sonic Healthcare USA is seeking a Training Lead for Microbiology to develop and standardize microbiology training programs, materials, and competency resources across the department.

You will coordinate training assignments, monitor progress, and serve as a SME for microbiology teammates, while supporting onboarding and ongoing professional development. This is a full-time role on first shift, based in the United States, with strong emphasis on quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or a related field with MT training
• ASCP certification or equivalent
• 3+ years in a microbiology laboratory performing high complexity testing
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to train, mentor, and provide constructive feedback

Responsibilities

• Lead development, standardization, and continuous improvement of microbiology training programs
• Create, maintain, and update training materials, competency resources, and job aids
• Establish training expectations, progression criteria, and competency standards
• Coordinate training assignments and support employee development
• Monitor trainee progress, assess competency, identify additional instruction needs
• Serve as SME and training resource for microbiology team and leadership
• Support onboarding, cross-training, and ongoing professional development
• Perform high complexity testing and contribute to laboratory operations

• Lead the development, standardization, and continuous improvement of microbiology training programs
• Create, maintain, and update training materials, competency resources, and job aids for microbiology benches and specialized work areas
• Establish consistent training expectations, progression criteria, and competency standards across the department
• Coordinate training assignments and partner with qualified staff to support employee development
• Monitor trainee progress, assess competency, and identify opportunities for additional instruction or remediation
• Serve as a subject matter expert and training resource for microbiology team members and leadership
• Support onboarding, cross-training, and ongoing professional development initiatives
• Perform high complexity testing and contribute to laboratory operations as needed
• Champion safety, compliance, quality control, and regulatory requirements

All you need is:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology; or Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science with 1 year of Medical Technology training
• Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent
• 3+ years of laboratory experience performing high complexity testing in a microbiology laboratory
• Demonstrated expertise in microbiology workflows, procedures, and quality standards
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to effectively train, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to others
• Strong reading, writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to operate general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to: telephones, computers, automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, manual and automated pipettes, and audible alarms

• Experience developing training materials, competency assessments, or standard operating procedures
