Job Description

Sirius Staffing is seeking a Microbiology Technician to work on the 2nd shift in the Birmingham, AL area. This position requires a strong background in microbiology, as well as experience working in a pharmaceutical manufacturing or similar regulated environment.

Pay: $29/hr + benefits + PTO and Holiday Pay
Schedule: 2nd shift; hours are Monday - Friday, 3 pm – 12 am

Responsibilities:

1. Monitor classified areas using active/passive air sampling, RODAC/swab surface sampling, and CliMet air sampling for bacteria, fungi, and total particulates.
2. Analyze trends to detect anomalies and characterize transient and resident microflora.

Utilities Testing:

1. Test city water for microbial counts and absence of enteric organisms.
2. Analyze pre-treated water, clean steam, and Water for Injection (WFI) for microbial count and endotoxins.
3. Assess nitrogen and process air for microbial count and particulates.

Microbiological Testing & Validation:

1. Identify microorganisms using classical microbiological methods.
2. Perform validation activities, including biological indicator recovery, bioburden testing, endotoxin rinse, and challenge vial testing.
3. Enter and analyze data using Microbiology Information Management Systems (MIMS).

GMP Compliance & Documentation:

1. Document test results and conclusions following GMP standards.
2. Ensure test forms are complete before submission for approval.
3. Follow all safety, health, and environmental policies, procedures, and directives.
4. Conduct laboratory activities safely, using MSDS to identify chemical hazards, observing proper procedures, and reporting incidents.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biological sciences, or related field.
2. Minimum 1 year of experience in clinical, academic, or industrial/pharmaceutical microbiology laboratories.
3. Experience in microbiological assays and testing.
4. Desired experience in environmental monitoring and trending.
5. Desired experience in utilities testing.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
7. Strong organizational and leadership skills.
8. Proficiency in GLPs and GMPs.
9. Excellent computer skills, including spreadsheets and databases.
10. Ability to use a respirator.
11. Ability to work with microorganisms and hot liquids.
