Microbiology Technician

Location: Arlington

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Read plates and tubes to determine the number of organisms in samples
  • Record findings for verification
  • Write identification onto plates for tracking
  • Pipette samples into tubes or plates according to procedures
  • Pour agar into plates or tubes to initiate growth
  • Prepare samples through recording, weighing, and blending
  • Incubate plates at specified conditions
  • Prepare media and broth for pathogen testing as needed
  • Sterilize materials and autoclave plates before disposal
  • Conduct tests such as food poisoning and pH analysis upon client request
  • Ensure media and materials are ready for subsequent tests
  • Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Set up equipment and support quality and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Perform housekeeping duties to keep work areas clean
  • Participate in cleaning schedules and maintain retain samples
  • Follow all safety policies
  • Support management in system implementation and improvement
  • Perform other related tasks as needed
Your Profile

Applicants should have an Associate's degree or equivalent experience with 1+ years relevant work, or a Bachelor's degree. Basic microbiology knowledge, computer skills, laboratory safety awareness, and planning skills are essential. Skills in analysis, data entry, and physical dexterity are required.

The work environment involves lab conditions with proper lighting and temperature, occasional exposure to chemicals, and the use of safety equipment. Daily use of autoclaves, lifting up to 50 pounds, extended standing, and color detection are part of the job.
