Job summary

Englewood Health is seeking a part-time Microbiology Laboratory Technician to perform and document routine and specialized testing across serology, parasitology, and bacteriology within the Microbiology department in Englewood, NJ.

You will operate complex lab equipment, maintain quality control, and communicate critical results promptly to physicians and nursing staff. The role involves handling specimens, mentoring staff, and participating in teaching programs.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of experience in the laboratory
• Proficient in the Microbiology area of the laboratory
• ASCP preferred

Responsibilities

• Performs, records, and reports specimen analysis in one section of the laboratory in a timely manner.
• Interprets data and answers questions from physicians, nurse and staff concerning test requirements, results, or specimen handling.
• Operates complex laboratory equipment requiring special skills and performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Assesses accuracy of tests following SOPs and CAP proficiency testing.
• Maintains quality control and documents proficiency testing per policy.
• Prepares stains, reagents, solutions and mounts slides for microscopic analysis as needed.
• Informs nursing unit and/or physician of critical lab values with complete documentation.
• Checks work list status on computer to ensure all work is complete.
• Assists in teaching students and new personnel and may participate in teaching programs.
