Job summary

United Urology Group in Beltsville, MD, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist – Microbiology to efficiently operate, analyze, and report tests. You will plate, isolate, and identify bacteria from body fluids and rectal swabs, and perform QC, maintenance, and LIS reporting to ensure accurate patient results.

The role requires a BS in Medical Technology or related field, ASCP certification, one year of Microbiology lab experience, and willingness to work weekends/holidays.

Qualifications

• BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or an Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
• Minimum of one year relevant experience in a Microbiology Lab.
• Requires ASCP certification or MLS/MLT, verified prior to employment.
• Able to work some weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Performs all microbiology duties in accordance with established procedures and policies.
• Plates, isolates, and identifies bacteria from body fluids and rectal swabs on appropriate media.
• Processes isolates on automated identification and susceptibility equipment.
• Verifies, records, and reports results in LIS in a timely manner.
• Leads projects or project steps and acts as a resource for colleagues.
• Performs equipment maintenance and QC, calibrations, and instrument checks.
• Maintains logs, organizes specimens, and disposes of waste properly.
• Assists Pathology Lab Manager in regulatory compliance and supply management.
