Job summary

University of Washington Medical Center in Renton, WA, seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician to join the Microbiology Team at the Renton Central Laboratory. Under supervision, you will perform routine testing, prepare specimens, and support laboratory operations, including training staff and contributing to new processes.

The role requires completion of a 2-year program in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology and technician-level certification.

Qualifications

• Completion of a two-year program in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology and Technician-level certification with the ASCP or equivalent certifying organization.
• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Responsibilities

• Process patient, proficiency, and environmental specimens for analysis according to SOPs.
• Perform patient and proficiency tests with SOPs and specified platforms.
• Enter test results in the laboratory information system and verify orders.
• Report critical values and routine results per protocols and timelines.
• Perform routine quality control and preventative maintenance.
• Assist with instruction and training of staff and students.
