Job summary

UW Medicine’s Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology in Renton, WA seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician for the Microbiology Team. Under supervision, the MLT performs routine testing and prepares specimens, while supporting quality control, training, and process improvement.

The position offers a 100% FTE, six‑month appointment with a day shift (Tuesday–Saturday) and a comprehensive benefits package including paid holidays, tuition assistance, and transit subsidies.

Qualifications

• Two-year program in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology with certification.
• Equivalent education/experience may substitute when not legally required.

Responsibilities

• Process specimens for analysis with correct identification and handling.
• Perform patient and proficiency testing following SOPs and policies.
• Input results into the laboratory information system and report values.
• Perform routine quality control and preventative maintenance.
• Assist in training staff and students; provide timely feedback.

Education

Two-year program in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology

Technician-level certification (ASCP or equivalent)
