Job summary

University of Washington DLMP seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician to support the Microbiology Team at the Renton Central Laboratory. The MLT performs routine testing, specimen setup, and quality checks under supervision. The role includes training others and assisting in new process development.

The position emphasizes specimen processing, troubleshooting, and accurate result reporting with a focus on patient safety and turnaround times.

Qualifications

• Two-year program in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology is required.
• Technician-level certification with ASCP or equivalent is required or substitutable by equivalent education/experience.

Responsibilities

• Process patient, proficiency, and environmental specimens for analysis.
• Perform patient and proficiency tests following SOPs.
• Input test results into the laboratory information system.
• Report critical values and routine results per established protocols.
• Perform quality control and preventive maintenance per protocols.
• Assist in training and evaluating staff and students.
• Contribute to development and evaluation of new processes and procedures.
• Provide age-appropriate care information based on patient needs.
