Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory professional to perform and assess qualitative and quantitative tests on blood, urine and other specimens. The schedule is 24 hours per week with every other Saturday rotation; no Sunday coverage required.

Required education includes a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field, with 1–3 years of related experience. ASCP/AMT/HEW eligibility and obtaining within 1 year of DOH are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field required.
• 1–3 years of directly related laboratory experience preferred.
• ASCP, AMT, HEW or eligible; must obtain within 1 year of DOH.

Responsibilities

• Performs qualitative and quantitative tests using automated instrumentation or manual methods per established procedures.
• Conducts quality assurance procedures including quality control testing, instrument function checks and calibrations; documents results.
• Assesses accuracy of results using scientific principles and identifies causes of irregular findings.
• Maintains records of tests and final results for patient care inquiries.
• Troubleshoots instruments and resolves technical problems; documents corrective actions.
• May assist in instructing students and laboratory personnel in diagnostic techniques.
• Performs phlebotomy according to established protocols.
• Performs order entry and specimen receipt; provides customer service.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
