Job summary

Eurofins is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor in Des Moines, IA to manage the microbiology department during mid-shift (12pm–9pm) and oversee daily operations, scheduling, and data analysis. The role emphasizes hands-on testing, adherence to SOPs, quality systems, and client-focused reporting.

Qualifications

• HS diploma plus 5-7 years’ laboratory experience.
• BS Degree plus 2-3 years’ laboratory experience.
• Experience in laboratory procedures, data analysis, computer operations, mathematics, and technical/business writing.
• 2-3 years supervisory experience in related field.
• Must be able to organize and lead laboratory personnel in a manner that reflects corporate goals and objectives and schedule workflow so as to optimize laboratory productivity and client satisfaction in a cost effective manner.

Responsibilities

• Regular attendance and punctuality
• Assist the Business Unit Manager in managing daily operations of the microbiology department including scheduling, supervising, instructing, monitoring, and assisting in the performance of manual and instrumental analyses
• Perform timely and accurate analysis of samples to meet customer commitments
• Has authority to execute a work stoppage in the event of a quality issue that would require the lab to stop operations until investigation gives assurance that work can begin
• Work with direct supervisor or director to commence work as a result of a work stoppage
• Use appropriate quality measures, which meet or exceed the standards, set by government regulations, and company requirements
• Promote the company image through ethical business practices
• Understand and follow Quality System documents relevant to responsibilities
• Perform microbiological testing on client samples using appropriate instruments and techniques as workload requires
• Troubleshoot equipment/instruments and perform minor repairs
• Coordinate major instrument repairs with repair person(s) and local quality representative
• Establish and implement procedures to ensure equipment is cleaned, calibrated/standardized, and adequate for testing
• Maintains regulatory compliance in testing
• Maintain a neat and accurate record system
• Assist laboratory staff in quality system-compliant work
• Review and evaluate test data for technical accuracy
• Investigate non-conformances and implement corrective actions
• Review and validate technical data for reporting readiness
• Review applications and hiring decisions for the position
• Train staff on test methods and SOPs
• Review performance and provide feedback
• Stay current on industry trends
• Respond to client and staff inquiries
• Adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Conduct all activities safely
