Job summary

UW Medicine, Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology, invites applications for a Health Services Manager in the Microbiology Lab at the Renton Central Lab. You will lead day-to-day operations, optimize specimen workflows, and ensure quality, safety, and regulatory compliance across preanalytical and analytical processes.

The role focuses on staff development, budget management, and collaboration with clinical and research units to support laboratory projects and educational programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science is required.
• ASCP certification or equivalent is required.
• Six years of progressively responsible clinical technologist experience, including leadership.
• Three+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Experience with quality management, CAP guidelines, and accreditation.
• Proven track record in changing management and process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and administrative leadership for the Microbiology Laboratory.
• Set goals with division leadership and plan strategies to meet future demands.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and accrediting bodies; maintain QA/QC programs.
• Oversee training programs, staff competencies, and student rotations.
• Develop and implement laboratory utilization algorithms and workflow improvements.
• Manage budgeting, staffing, and vendor negotiations for equipment and service contracts.
• Collaborate with clinical and research units on projects and process improvements.
