Job summary

Prime Healthcare St Francis Hospital in Evanston, IL seeks a Microbiology and Molecular Supervisor to oversee daily operations of the Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics sections. You will lead staff, optimize workflows, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive automation/digital microbiology initiatives.

You will partner with laboratory leadership, medical directors, infection prevention, and clinical teams to support patient care, antimicrobial stewardship, and infection control efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, microbiology, molecular biology, or related field is required.
• ASCP certification (MLS or equivalent) preferred.
• Minimum five years in microbiology and/or molecular labs.
• Experience with microbiology automation platforms (e.g., WASPLab) strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of culture techniques, AST, molecular diagnostics, and automation.

Responsibilities

The Microbiology and Molecular Supervisor provides operational, technical, and administrative oversight of the Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics sections within the laboratory. This role ensures high-quality, timely, and compliant testing services across bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST), and molecular diagnostics (PCR/NAAT).

This individual is: 1) responsible for daily operations, staff supervision, workflow optimization, regulatory compliance, and implementation of automation and digital microbiology solutions 2) partners closely with laboratory leadership, medical directors, infection prevention, and clinical teams to support patient care, antimicrobial stewardship, and infection control initiatives.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, microbiology, molecular biology, or related field required.2. ASCP certification (MLS or equivalent) preferred.3. A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $79,372.80 to $106,828.80 on an annualized basis. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
