Job summary

CACI seeks a Metrology Specialist to join NSWCCD Fabrication Team to perform high-precision measurements using CMMs, laser trackers, and PC-DMIS. You will generate first article inspections and tolerance studies, calibrate equipment, and maintain measurement programs.

The role requires program troubleshooting, data analysis from detailed drawings, and collaboration with shop management on planning and cost impact. On-site work with potential travel is involved.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must have significant experience writing, troubleshooting, and running PC-DMIS inspection programs.
• Experience with utilizing high precision measurement equipment and performing computerized spatial analysis.
• Knowledge of manufacturing trades including industrial and commercial manufacturing processes to contribute to the engineering design and development function.
• Ability to collect and analyze data in test samples and fabrication mockups and apply the data to the fabrication of future high cost components and models.
• Experienced in inspecting and dimensionally verifying components and models to ensure compliance with drawings and control documents.
• Experience with generating and delivering measurement reports per customer specifications.
• Thorough understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerance practices, including NIST.
• Ability to read and work from highly detailed drawings and specifications.
• Desire to learn, ask questions, and take initiative within safety and skills limitations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare measurement reports per customer specifications.
• Determine if first article parts are acceptable.
• Implement new reporting templates or formats to facilitate documentation, reporting, and tracking of precision measurement activities.
• Utilize PC-DMIS as the primary metrology software (with Polyworks as a secondary tool) to inspect high-tolerance finished components with minimal fixturing.
• Advise shop management during planning and costing regarding inspection difficulty and potential issues.
• Analyze and diagnose problems during inspection and develop robust methods to reduce issues in the future tasks.
• Use PC-DMIS or Polyworks to perform Laser Tracker measurements in accordance with facility policies.
• Adhere to Model Fabrication Facility policies and practices.
• Design specialized tooling fixtures to support production of complex machined components.
• Apply knowledge of engineering disciplines in structural design, weld design, and prototype design.
• Interpret complex engineered drawings and verbal communications.
