Job summary

The Amatriot Group in Bethesda, MD is seeking a Metrologist to join NSWCCDs Fabrication Team. You will calibrate and measure items with CMMs, laser trackers, and other precision devices, performing spatial analysis and tolerance studies.

You will prepare measurement reports, use PolyWorks for inspection, and support planning with dimensional input. A strong GD&T background and ability to read detailed drawings are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with high-precision measurement equipment (CMMs, laser trackers, ultrasonic devices, calipers, verniers, electronic protractors, squares, height gauges, depth gauges, indicators, and micrometers) and performing computerized spatial analysis.
• Knowledge of manufacturing trades and GD&T practices, ability to read highly detailed drawings and specifications.
• Ability to collect and analyze data in test samples and fabrication mockups and apply the data to future high-cost components.
• Experience inspecting and dimensionally verifying components to ensure compliance with drawings and specs.
• Experience generating and delivering measurement reports per customer specifications.
• Understanding of GD&T and tolerance practices, including NIST.
• Ability to read and work from detailed drawings and specs.
• Desire to learn and take initiative within safety and skills limits.

Responsibilities

• Prepare measurement reports per customer specifications.
• Determine if first article parts are acceptable.
• Use Polyworks Metrology Software to inspect high tolerance finished components with minimal fixturing.
• Advise shop management during planning and costing on inspection difficulty and potential issues.
• Analyze and diagnose problems during inspection and develop methods to prevent recurrence.
• Perform Laser Tracker measurements per facility policies and practices.
• Design specialized tooling fixtures to support production of complex machined components.
• Apply knowledge of engineering disciplines in design and prototype processes.
• Interpret complex drawings and verbal communications.
