Job summary

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) seeks a dedicated Training and Safety Instructor to deliver high-quality bus transportation training, evaluate performance, and promote safety across Metrobus operations in the D.C. region.

You will use hands-on teaching, classroom instruction, and modern training tools to prepare operators and maintenance staff, while mentoring colleagues and supporting continuous improvement in safety culture.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible bus operations experience.
• Experience developing and presenting bus operator training or as an instructor.
• Valid driver's license with Class A or B CDL, passenger endorsements.
• Clean driving record: no more than two points and no major violations in recent years.
• Preferred: degree in Training, Instructional Design or related field.
• Some supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess training needs through surveys and interviews.
• Develop and deliver training courses and lesson plans.
• Coordinate CDL training and testing; requalify operators as needed.
• Instruct and qualify operators on new routes, changes, and equipment.
• Calculate and administer trainee grades; monitor progress.
• Mentor employees post-training and address performance issues.
• Prepare weekly and periodic reports; gather performance data.
