Sharyland Water Supply Corporation is seeking a Meter Technician to ensure reliable meter data and accurate readings across our system. You will read meters, handle anomalies, and support field operations with safe, professional onsite work.

Sharyland Water Supply Corporation was established in May of 1968 for the purpose of providing safe, affordable drinking water to the rural communities in and around Mission, McAllen, and Edinburg. We continue to strive in that endeavor.
Sharyland Water Supply Corporation was created by a group of determined, community-minded men in the 1960's. With the help of Farmers Home Administration, a loan was acquired and construction began to build a rural water system. Initially, 700 property owners committed to take water service once construction was complete. Today, more than 50 years later, there are over 19,000 water connections on the system.
The Corporation has approximately 100 square miles of Certified Area, 800 miles of water lines, three water plants, four elevated storage tanks and plans for additional water system improvements in the works.

As a Meter Technician, you’ll protect billing accuracy and customer trust by ensuring reliable water meter data and service activity across our system. This role exists to keep readings consistent, resolve anomalies quickly, and support field operations with safe, professional onsite work.
Key responsibilities include accurate meter reading (hand-recorded or via hand-held computer), re-checking readings tied to high billings, installing and removing meters, completing meter connections/disconnections, digging out covered meter boxes as needed, and cleaning, repairing, and testing meters when required. You’ll interact with the public daily and represent Sharyland with professionalism.
Required skills/qualifications:
Pay: $14–$15/hour (based on license).

Your day starts in Alton with route prep and equipment check, then moves into the field for steady, independent work across neighborhoods and service areas. You’ll balance pace with precision, document what you find, and pivot when a reading looks unusual or a meter box needs attention. Expect regular interaction with customers at the door or curbside—answering questions clearly and keeping the experience respectful. You’ll wrap up by confirming entries, staging any meters needing follow-up work, and coordinating next steps with the team before heading out.
