Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan in New Mexico is seeking a Metallurgical Technician to support testing, analyses and reliability of metallurgical processes at the Chino complex near Silver City. You’ll perform supervised analyses and prepare reports.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the basic principles and methods used in Metallurgical and processing analyses.
• Ability to conduct research and analyze information or considerable difficulty to draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Under close supervision, assists in providing technical support and advice in Metallurgical testing and analysis at assigned site.
• Assists in Metallurgical studies and conducting analyses
• Prepares standard reports on Metallurgical or process issues and assists in recommending appropriate action to resolve or correct issues
• Assists in reviewing new or enhanced Metallurgical testing equipment or protocols
• Assists in evaluating and administering contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
• Develops and maintains an understanding of applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, State and Federal regulations applicable to area of assignment
• Performs other duties as required
