Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan in the United States is seeking a Metallurgical technician to support testing and analysis at the Chino site. You will assist in studies, prepare reports, and help ensure process improvements.

Qualified candidates hold a Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry or related engineering and can analyze information, communicate effectively, and follow safety practices. The role may involve shift work at a 24/7 operation.

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry or related Engineering discipline.
• Knowledge of the basic principles and methods used in Metallurgical and processing analyses.
• Ability to conduct research and analyze information to draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and advice in Metallurgical testing and analysis at assigned site.
• Assist in Metallurgical studies and conducting analyses.
• Prepare standard reports on Metallurgical or process issues and assist in recommending actions to resolve issues.
• Assist in reviewing new or enhanced Metallurgical testing equipment or protocols.
• Assist in evaluating and administering contracts with vendors for services and equipment.
• Develops and maintains an understanding of applicable programs, practices and regulations.
• Performs other duties as required.

Where You Will Work

Chino is an open-pit copper mining complex located 15 miles from the historic mining community of Silver City in southwestern New Mexico. The historic Chino mine was among the world's first low-grade, open-pit copper mines. Today, the operation consists of a 36,000-metric-ton-per-day concentrator that produces copper and a 150-million-pound-per-year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode from solution generated by run-of-mine leaching.

What You Will Do

• Under close supervision, assists in providing technical support and advice in Metallurgical testing and analysis at assigned site.
• Assists in Metallurgical studies and conducting analyses
• Prepares standard reports on Metallurgical or process issues and assists in recommending appropriate action to resolve or correct issues
• Assists in reviewing new or enhanced Metallurgical testing equipment or protocols
• Assists in evaluating and administering contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
• Develops and maintains an understanding of applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, State and Federal regulations applicable to area of assignment
• Performs other duties as required

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry or related Engineering discipline
• Knowledge of the basic principles and methods used in Metallurgical and processing analyses
• Able to conduct research and analyze information or considerable difficulty to draw valid conclusions
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently$75,000-$104,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
