Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking a Metallurgical support professional for our Chino site in southwestern New Mexico. You will assist in metallurgical testing, analyses, and reporting under supervision, supporting safety and regulatory compliance across the operation.

The candidate will engage in evaluating equipment, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulations, and supporting vendor contracts. This position emphasizes rigorous safety practices and collaborative problem-solving within a

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Metallurgy, Chemistry or related Engineering.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and methods used in metallurgy and processing analyses.
  • Ability to conduct research and analyze information to draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Responsibilities

  • Under close supervision, assists in providing technical support and advice in Metallurgical testing and analysis at assigned site.
  • Assists in Metallurgical studies and conducting analyses.
  • Prepares standard reports on Metallurgical or process issues and assists in recommending appropriate action to resolve or correct issues.
  • Assists in reviewing new or enhanced Metallurgical testing equipment or protocols.
  • Assists in evaluating and administering contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment.
  • Develops and maintains an understanding of applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, State and Federal regulations applicable to area of assignment.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Where You Will Work

Chino is an open-pit copper mining complex located 15 miles from the historic mining community of Silver City in southwestern New Mexico. The historic Chino mine was among the world's first low-grade, open-pit copper mines. Today, the operation consists of a 36,000-metric-ton-per-day concentrator that produces copper and a 150-million-pound-per-year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode from solution generated by run-of-mine leaching.

The community of Silver City boasts various restaurants, arts, entertainment, cliff dwellings, festivals and much more. What You Will Do

What You Bring To Freeport
  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry or related Engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of the basic principles and methods used in Metallurgical and processing analyses

  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

Preferred Qualifications
What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently$75,000-$104,000.This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
