Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan in the Chino copper complex, southwestern New Mexico, seeks an entry-level Metallurgical technician to join our team. Under close supervision, you will provide technical support and analysis for metallurgical testing and processing, and assist in studies and reporting.

You will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry or related engineering, uphold safety practices, and communicate effectively. The role offers a competitive pay range and a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, assist in Metallurgical testing and analysis at the site.

• Assist in vendor contracts for services and equipment.
• Maintain understanding of applicable regulations.
• Perform other duties as required.

Where You Will Work

Chino is an open-pit copper mining complex located 15 miles from the historic mining community of Silver City in southwestern New Mexico. The historic Chino mine was among the world's first low-grade, open-pit copper mines. Today, the operation consists of a 36,000-metric-ton-per-day concentrator that produces copper and a 150-million-pound-per-year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode from solution generated by run-of-mine leaching.

What You Will Do

• Under close supervision, assists in providing technical support and advice in Metallurgical testing and analysis at assigned site.
• Assists in Metallurgical studies and conducting analyses
• Prepares standard reports on Metallurgical or process issues and assists in recommending appropriate action to resolve or correct issues
• Assists in reviewing new or enhanced Metallurgical testing equipment or protocols
• Assists in evaluating and administering contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
• Develops and maintains an understanding of applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, State and Federal regulations applicable to area of assignment
• Performs other duties as required

What You Bring To Freeport

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry or related Engineering discipline
• Knowledge of the basic principles and methods used in Metallurgical and processing analyses
• Able to conduct research and analyze information or considerable difficulty to draw valid conclusions
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently$75,000-$104,000.This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
