Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Quality Engineer for our forging/manufacturing environment in Portland, IN. You will review manufacturing jobs for material selection, heat treatment, processing routes, and supplier certifications, and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions.

You will manage third-party testing, verify material chemistry, and collaborate with Quality, Engineering, Production, and suppliers to drive continuous improvement using Lean and Six Sigma methods.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Engineering Physics, Chemistry, or related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in a quality engineering role in a manufacturing setting.
• Proficiency in statistical analysis tools and data analytics (Minitab, JMP, or equivalent).
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify minute surface defects.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Review and validate material selection, heat treatment requirements, and processing routes for manufacturing jobs.
• Investigate and resolve metallurgical, quality, and heat-treatment issues.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for non-conforming materials, processes, and products.
• Manage third-party laboratory testing and track results.
• Verify incoming material chemistry against certifications and specifications.
• Support supplier quality initiatives and drive corrective actions.
• Collaborate with various teams to develop metallurgical programs and improve process capability.
