Job summary

MicroPort is seeking a Metal Finisher to finish medical devices, verify quality, and operate finishing equipment such as belt lathes, sandblast and robots. The role includes reading work instructions, data entry into device history systems, and complying with 6S practices.

This 2nd shift position runs Monday through Friday, 3:00–11:30 pm, with a 5% shift premium. We value mechanical aptitude, basic reading of blueprints, metrology skills, and the ability to work with a team while maintaining

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Metal Finisher I/II/Sr experience as applicable or related technical education is valued.
• Basic reading of blueprints and viewing work instructions required.
• Solid metrology / measuring skills and attention to detail essential.

Responsibilities

• Operate sandblast/glass bead machines and belt lathes to meet quality/production targets.
• Read and understand work instructions accurately.
• Use measuring tools (CMM, calipers, micrometers, optical comparators).
• Operate robotic finishing equipment and ensure proper data entry to history systems.
• Perform additional production tasks such as laser marking and data entry as needed.
• Maintain 6S practices and a clean, organized work area.

Overall Summary

As a Metal Finisher, you will metal finish medical devices to meet specifications, perform quality verification of medical devices, including non‑destructive testing, laser mark medical devices, and operate machines used to metal finish including belt lathes, sandblast equipment, robots etc.

Your duties will include:

Metal Finisher I:

1. 1. Operate sandblast/glass bead machines to meet quality and production requirements.
2. 2. Ability to read and understand work instructions.
3. 3. Operate measuring tools including: cmm, digital/optical comparators, Tally Round, air gages, calipers and micrometers.
4. 4. Operate belt lathe machines to meet quality and production requirements.
5. 5. Operate robotic machines to meet quality specifications and production requirements.
6. 6. Correctly enter data into device history routers for the product produced.
7. 7. Perform secondary operations required for production but not necessarily on a daily basis such as but not limited to: laser marking, work order completions.
8. 8. Enter required production data into systems used by MicroPort for business purposes. (dbh, oee, Workman, Camstar etc.
9. 9. Straighten with hydraulic press
10. 10. Masking medical devices.

Metal Finisher II:

1. 1. Perform penetrant inspection process to meet quality specifications and production requirements.
2. 2. Perform required pm’s on machines and processes.
3. 3. Train other employees to metal finish.
4. 4. Electro polish process (if required for production)
5. 5. Precision finishing.
6. 6. 6S practices and skills

Sr. Metal Finisher: (only applies to internal candidates)

1. 1. Welding (if required for production)
2. 2. Proficiency in metal finishing in two of the following production areas tibs, fems, hips, job shop and prototypes.
3. 3. Troubleshooting robot issues (if required for production)
4. 4. Heat treating (if required for production)
5. 5. Knowledge and experience in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing

• Metal Finisher I: minimum 1 year of related experience or equivalent technical education
• Metal Finisher II: minimum 2 years related experience.
• Sr. Metal Finisher: (only applies to internal candidates) minimum 3 years related experience.
