Job summary

MicroPort is seeking a Machinist to join our 2nd shift team in Tennessee. You will operate CNC and manual machines to manufacture medical devices, working from setup to process completion and ensuring QA compliance. This role requires reading blueprints, metrology use, and a focus on quality.

Shift is 3:00-11:30pm, with a 5% shift premium, Monday through Friday. Ideal candidates have 2+ years in CNC/Manual machining, knowledge of mills and lathes, and a track record of meeting production quotas

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical training preferred.
• Experience with CNC machining and blueprint interpretation essential.
• Familiarity with metrology tools and QA requirements.
• Ability to operate in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC and manual machines (mills, lathes) to produce medical devices.
• Ensure parts meet specifications using calipers, micrometers, and QA equipment.
• Enter production data into manufacturing systems and maintain documentation.
• Support process improvements and training of junior machinists.

Overall Summary

As a Machinist, you will work with tools, fixtures, and machines to manufacture medical devices from setup to operation. A working knowledge of manual machines (i.e., mills, lathes, grinders) and the ability to operate computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines is utilized to produce large volumes of medical devices made from metals, plastics or other materials.

Machinist I

Your duties will include:

• Operate multiple CNC/Manual machines such as mills and lathes.
• Manufacture medical devices that conform to specifications and all Quality Assurance requirements such as calipers, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines, optical comparators, air gages, surface roundness and finish analyzers.
• Attain production quotas such as daily goals, team goals, and labor standards.
• Complete device history records accurately with minimal errors.
• Enter required production data into MicroPort business systems.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance including area cleaning.

Machinist II

Your duties will include:

• Set-up and operate multiple CNC/Manual machines such as mills, lathes, and multi-axis CNC’s.
• Perform auxiliary production operations such as, but not limited to inspection, metal finishing, robot operation, issuing / receiving raw materials and components.
• Work with Engineering staff to develop, prove out, and improve production processes.
• Communicate with peers, management, and other departments to ensure optimal efficiency is achieved.
• Train other machinists in core job duties.

Senior Machinist

• Lead 6S projects and implement improvements to the process.
• Be proficient in the set up and operation of at least 3 different types of machines in 3 different work centers.
• Participate in team events, as well as individually contribute, to improve production efficiencies.
• Participate in the interview process for prospective machinists.
• Maintain a strong machining knowledge base to ensure optimal performance in any and all areas that present business needs.

We Might Be a Great Match If

Machinists must be able to understand units of measure in both metric and English; must be able to convert between the two. A basic understanding of manufacturing machines, metal deburring, and plastic trimming is required. The ability to use measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers and other specialty tools used in machining processes is required.
