Merchandising Assistant Store Manager in Training

Position Purpose

Merchandising Assistant Store Manager in Training (MASM-IT) will gain hands-on experience in the key responsibilities and functions of a Specialty Assistant Store Manager at The Home Depot. The MASM-IT will undergo comprehensive training that includes hands-on experience, mentorship, and leadership development. Throughout their training, MASMs in Training will become familiar with Manager on Duty duties and will learn to oversee various Merchandising departments (Garden, Hardware, Lumber, Building Materials, Plumbing, and Electrical) to ensure the successful execution of key programs that enhance customer service, product availability, and store presentation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Customer Experience (15%): Supervising associates in selling efforts, leading GET culture, driving customer service, and ensuring customer concerns are resolved effectively.
2. Operations Management (10%): Performing Opening, Closing MOD duties, adhering to policies, maintaining SOPs, especially safety compliance, and mitigating shrink.
3. Safety (10%): Ensuring safety and hazmat procedures are followed by self and associates.
4. Sales and Productivity (15%): Planning merchandise placement, supporting inventory management, and operating store equipment and systems.
5. Training and Preparation (50%): Participating in structured training covering all aspects of retail management, including staffing, stock management, customer service, performance management, and completing training modules and assessments.

Reporting and Travel

This position typically reports to the Store Manager and has no direct reports. Overnight travel is less than 5%.

Physical and Working Conditions

Requires standing, walking, and lifting moderate weight (8-20 pounds). Located in a comfortable indoor environment with infrequent unpleasant conditions.

• Must be 18 years or older
• Legally permitted to work in the U.S.

Educational and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of work experience; 3 years preferred.
