About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior MEP Superintendent to lead field operations for a large-scale data center project near Fargo, ND.
The Senior MEP Superintendent will oversee MEP field operations, safety, productivity, scheduling, quality, subcontractor coordination, and site execution while working closely with the Project Manager, owner, design team, trade contractors, and suppliers.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience leading complex construction projects, strong MEP knowledge, proven field leadership, and experience managing subcontractors and field teams.
This position may oversee multiple projects totaling more than $50 million and offers an opportunity to play a key leadership role on complex, high-value construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations & Project Execution
- Lead and manage day-to-day MEP field operations for large and complex construction projects.
- Review and understand project plans, specifications, drawings, and construction details.
- Maintain accurate and updated construction drawings throughout the project.
- Coordinate tools, equipment, materials, and resources required for field operations.
- Manage project schedules, cost codes, budgets, production units, and site productivity.
- Monitor project progress and resolve field issues and deficiencies.
- Coordinate and manage trade contractors and suppliers to ensure schedule, quality, and performance requirements are met.
- Troubleshoot jobsite challenges and develop effective solutions.
- Manage inspections with city officials, government agencies, and other required authorities.
- Establish and manage punch-list and project closeout procedures.
- Maintain a zero-punch-list approach to project completion.
Safety & Quality
- Develop and maintain site-specific safety plans.
- Implement and maintain a strong Incident and Injury Free (IIF) safety culture.
- Ensure jobsite safety requirements are understood and followed by employees and trade contractors.
- Lead onsite safety meetings and weekly toolbox talks.
- Review subcontractor safety programs and SDS documentation.
- Identify and correct safety hazards and report incidents appropriately.
- Maintain required OSHA and company safety documentation.
- Develop and implement site-specific quality control plans.
- Monitor construction quality and ensure compliance with established quality standards.
Owner & Design Team Coordination
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with owners and design teams.
- Understand and communicate owner goals and expectations to field teams.
- Coordinate communication between vendors, owners, design teams, and other project stakeholders.
- Facilitate collaboration between field operations, project management, and external partners.
- Lead and manage assigned Superintendents and other field team members.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members.
- Conduct regular performance check-ins and support employee development.
- Participate in hiring, staffing, development, and retention activities.
- Establish performance goals and development plans.
- Foster a collaborative and accountable project environment.
- Resolve field team issues and ensure employees have the necessary resources to succeed.
Preconstruction & Planning
- Provide MEP technical expertise during preconstruction and constructability reviews.
- Participate in project scheduling and planning.
- Support quantity take-offs, material selection, and pricing estimates.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, including sequencing, durations, and procurement activities.
- Review project budgets, estimates, contracts, and subcontractor scopes.
- Ensure subcontractors meet insurance and other requirements before beginning work.
Business Development
- Support procurement of future projects and client development efforts.
- Participate in marketing presentations and proposal preparation.
- Provide input on construction sequencing and scheduling for proposed projects.
- Develop and maintain relationships within the construction industry.
- Participate in external industry organizations and networking activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field plus 8+ years of construction management experience.
OR
- High school diploma/equivalent with 12+ years of directly related construction experience.
- 2+ years of people management experience.
- Strong experience with construction field operations and MEP coordination.
- Proven experience managing subcontractors and trade contractors.
- Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, value engineering, and life-cycle costing.
- Proven track record of driving construction safety and compliance.
- OSHA 30 certification or ability to obtain.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities under tight deadlines.
- Ability to build strong relationships with owners, design teams, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
- Willingness to travel and accept long-term out-of-town assignments.
- Ability to work in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data center or mission-critical construction.
- Experience managing large, complex MEP projects.
- Experience with projects totaling $50M+.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Experience with Prolog, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Excel, AutoCAD, or other construction management software.
- Experience with preconstruction and constructability reviews.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Walk, climb, lift, carry, push, and perform repetitive physical activities throughout the workday.
- Occasionally lift, move, and/or carry up to 100 pounds.
- Work on active construction sites.
- Work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
