Job summary

Gray AES seeks a Mechanical Engineer-MEP to lead design efforts across multiple offices, including Lexington, KY. You will perform load calculations, develop cost analyses, and coordinate with BIM-enabled teams to deliver compliant, cost-effective engineering solutions.

The role requires a PE license, 5–7 years of mechanical design experience, and travel up to 25%. Expertise in Revit, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and BIM workflows is essential for model integration and client coordination.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
Professional Engineering License is required.
5–7 years of mechanical design experience in industrial or commercial projects.
Advanced proficiency in Bluebeam and 3D modeling software (e.g., Revit) and BIM workflows.
Familiarity with building codes and standards (IBC, ASHRAE, NFPA) and client-specific design requirements.
Ability to perform load calculations and cost analysis with appropriate software.
MS Office suite with advanced Excel for system analysis, cost modeling, and optimization.
Leadership in mentoring junior engineers and managing design teams.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

Lead mechanical design efforts for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with client requirements and building codes.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated design solutions.
Perform advanced heating/cooling load calculations and energy code compliance assessments.
Collaborate with owners and project teams to ensure cost-effective systems and value engineering.
Use BIM and AutoCAD to incorporate designs into project models and drawings.
Select and specify mechanical equipment; design air distribution and piping systems.
Develop control drawings and system diagrams.
Update and maintain engineering design standards.
Perform and document design calculations to meet codes and specs.
Conduct quality control reviews of drawings, specs, and calculations.
Collaborate with project managers to meet schedules and deliver complete, coordinated packages.
Review RFIs, shop drawings, and submittals to maintain design intent.
Participate in client meetings and design reviews; support project delivery.
Assist in mentoring junior engineers and designers; contribute to team growth.
Other duties as assigned.
