Job summary

Gray AES seeks a Mechanical Engineer-MEP to lead design efforts across multiple offices, including Lexington, KY. You will perform load calculations, develop cost analyses, and coordinate with BIM-enabled teams to deliver compliant, cost-effective engineering solutions.

The role requires a PE license, 5–7 years of mechanical design experience, and travel up to 25%. Expertise in Revit, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and BIM workflows is essential for model integration and client coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Professional Engineering License is required.
• 5–7 years of mechanical design experience in industrial or commercial projects.
• Advanced proficiency in Bluebeam and 3D modeling software (e.g., Revit) and BIM workflows.
• Familiarity with building codes and standards (IBC, ASHRAE, NFPA) and client-specific design requirements.
• Ability to perform load calculations and cost analysis with appropriate software.
• MS Office suite with advanced Excel for system analysis, cost modeling, and optimization.
• Leadership in mentoring junior engineers and managing design teams.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design efforts for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with client requirements and building codes.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated design solutions.
• Perform advanced heating/cooling load calculations and energy code compliance assessments.
• Collaborate with owners and project teams to ensure cost-effective systems and value engineering.
• Use BIM and AutoCAD to incorporate designs into project models and drawings.
• Select and specify mechanical equipment; design air distribution and piping systems.
• Develop control drawings and system diagrams.
• Update and maintain engineering design standards.
• Perform and document design calculations to meet codes and specs.
• Conduct quality control reviews of drawings, specs, and calculations.
• Collaborate with project managers to meet schedules and deliver complete, coordinated packages.
• Review RFIs, shop drawings, and submittals to maintain design intent.
• Participate in client meetings and design reviews; support project delivery.
• Assist in mentoring junior engineers and designers; contribute to team growth.
• Other duties as assigned.
