Job summary

Gray AES is seeking a Mechanical Engineer-MEP to join our Lexington, KY office (also supporting Atlanta, GA; Dallas, TX; Fullerton, CA). Lead mechanical design, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, perform load calculations, and ensure code compliance (IBC, ASHRAE, NFPA).

You will mentor junior engineers, develop BIM models in Revit, use Bluebeam and AutoCAD, and help drive value engineering while meeting project schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• Professional Engineering License (PE) required.
• 5–7 years of mechanical design experience in industrial or commercial projects.
• Advanced proficiency in Bluebeam and 3D building modeling software (Revit) and BIM workflows.
• Experience with building codes and standards (IBC, ASHRAE, NFPA) and client-specific design requirements.
• Ability to perform load calculations and cost analysis with appropriate software.
• Microsoft Office Suite proficiency with advanced Excel for analysis, modeling, and optimization.
• Demonstrated leadership in mentoring junior engineers and managing design teams.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design efforts for assigned projects, ensuring client requirements and codes are met.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated design solutions.
• Perform advanced heating/cooling load calculations and energy code compliance assessments.
• Collaborate with owner and project team to ensure cost-effective systems and implement value engineering.
• Use BIM and AutoCAD to incorporate designs into project models and drawings.
• Specify mechanical equipment and design air distribution and piping systems.
• Develop control drawings and system diagrams.
