Job summary

Optima Engineering is seeking an experienced MEP Field Engineer to join our employee‑owned firm serving buildings across the Southeast. You will conduct site visits, inspect MEP installations, and ensure compliance with design documents and codes.

Required are a NC PE license and a bachelor’s in engineering or equivalent field experience, plus 5+ years in MEP/FP inspection for diverse facilities. Travel and driver’s license are expected.

Qualifications

• Registration as Professional Engineer in North Carolina.
• Bachelor’s degree in ME/EE/ET/CM or equivalent hands‑on field experience.
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on field experience inspecting and evaluating MEP/FP installations
• Familiarity with building codes, construction safety regulations, and industry standards governing MEP/FP work
• Proficiency in Revit and/or AutoCAD
• Strong problem‑solving, communication, and teamwork skills
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular site visits to inspect MEP installations against construction documents, specs and codes.
• Identify and document non‑conforming work with detailed field observation reports.
• Assess equipment placement, piping/conduit routing, clearances and constructability.
• Develop and maintain punch lists; verify completion prior to closeout and owner acceptance.
• Attend pre‑construction and progress meetings; provide input on sequencing and constructability.
• Review contractor submittals and shop drawings for conformance with design documents.
• Refer field deviations requiring design judgment to project engineer and track resolution.
• Review contractor payment applications and change orders for field accuracy.
• Serve as liaison between client, contractor and design team to resolve issues.
• Participate in postmortem reviews for larger/complex projects.
