Job summary

Optima Engineering seeks an Electrical Engineer to join our employee-owned firm delivering high-quality MEP design for buildings across the Southeast. The role focuses on electrical system design, lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, and low-voltage solutions for higher education, municipal, K-12, and commercial facilities.

You will prepare drawings and calculations in Revit or AutoCAD, perform load analyses, and contribute to interdisciplinary coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
• PE in NC preferred or required for project responsibilities.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in MEP building systems design for education, municipal, K-12, and/or commercial facilities.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with PMs and multidisciplinary teams from concept through construction.
• Design lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems meeting codes.
• Prepare drawings, specifications, and calculations in Revit or AutoCAD.
• Perform load calculations, circuiting, panel schedules, and equipment sizing.
• Conduct field investigations, site observations, and existing system assessments.
• Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and provide construction administration support.
• Participate in coordination and quality control reviews to ensure high-quality deliverables.
• Mentor junior staff and share technical expertise across the team.
