Job Summary:
The MEP Estimator is responsible for managing assigned construction estimating projects, focusing on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing trades, ensuring a complete scope of work is documented and analyzed in a timely manner for cost and feasibility analysis. Responsibilities include organizing bid solicitations, conducting quantitative analysis, reviewing schedules, costing, risk, and interpreting project specifications and contract language. The role involves working independently with considerable decision-making latitude and collaborating closely with internal teams and external stakeholders including architects, engineers, owners, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Location:
This position will be at the Hagerman Fishers office. This is not a remote position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and documents to understand the scope of work and requirements for MEP systems; conduct material take-offs and quantify necessary materials and resources based on drawings and specifications.
- Analyze labor, equipment, subcontractor costs, and overhead related to MEP installations; prepare detailed cost estimates using estimating software and create organized project estimating files.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, architects, owners, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates align with project requirements and schedules; prepare and present cost estimates, proposals, and bid documents.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, negotiations, and bid strategy sessions to clarify requirements, resolve discrepancies, and assign scopes to trade contractors; review scopes of work with subcontractors and suppliers pre- and post-bid.
- Monitor and update estimates throughout the project lifecycle, tracking changes, revising as needed, and providing cost analysis reports to project teams; attend turnover and close-out meetings to gather historical data and evaluate vendor performance.
- Assess constructability and logistics with internal and external teams; build schedules based on project durations and sequences to support efficient and profitable bid strategies.
- Organize and manage bid day activities, including coordinating bid runners, reviewing bid forms, setting up software, and managing communication with the bid team.
- Identify project-specific permit fees, bonding and insurance requirements, temporary facilities, and overhead costs; create bid advertisements and support publishing of XBE requirements when needed.
- Prepare job costing reports for tracking actual vs. budgeted quantities and labor; compile scope documentation to support purchase order and subcontract development.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to support successful and competitive bidding efforts.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in large-scale vertical commercial construction estimating. A BA/BS/AS or other accredited degree may substitute for up to 4 years of experience. Effective verbal, written, and presentation skills are required. Experience with preconstruction estimating is preferred.
