Qualifications

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in civil engineering from ABET-accredited college or university.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • English language skills: ability to read and interpret documents, write simple correspondence and present information.
  • Mathematical skills: basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry.
  • Proficient PC skills; AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency preferred.
  • Organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision of licensed professional engineer, develops electrical engineering studies, plans, specs, calculations, evaluations, design documents for commercial facilities.
  • Uses AutoCAD, Revit MEP and other MEP-specific tools to create detailed designs for construction documents.
  • Participates in and ensures QC/QA procedures are followed; maintains design standards.
  • Follows safety policies and procedures; performs other duties as assigned.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The MEP Electrical Intern will gain hands-on experience designing electrical systems for commercial construction and renovation projects while collaborating with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary design professionals. This internship offers the opportunity to contribute to diverse, real-world projects, build technical knowledge, and strengthen analytical and problem-solving skills in a supportive team environment. The role is ideal for a motivated student who is eager to explore the profession and discover the vital role engineers play in shaping safe, efficient, and sustainable built environments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Under oversight of licensed professional engineer, develops electrical engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and assessments for commercial facilities, including new construction and renovation.
  • Uses AutoCAD, Revit MEP and other MEP-specific design and calculation software to create detailed designs for construction documents.
  • Participates in and ensures QC/QA procedures are followed. Maintains accurate design standards and procedures in assigned work.
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Pursuing Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in civil engineering from ABET-accredited college or university.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • English language skills: ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Reasoning skills: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency preferred.
  • Organizational skills: ability to prioritize and organize tasks; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Remote connectivity device (e.g., smart phone, tablet, etc.) with data plan sufficient for company requirements, including multi-factor authentication, time and mileage tracking, expense reimbursement, e-mail, and virtual communications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a productive/technical nature.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with the fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
  • Ability to sit and manipulate computer mouse up to eight hours per day.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk, including over uneven surfaces, for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to see clearly 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more; ability to identify and distinguish colors; ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Well-lit, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office/production setting with adequate ventilation.
  • Occasionally outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, wind, etc.) for site visits.
WORK SCHEDULE
  • Fixed schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, including required core hours.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
