Job summary

Turner & Townsend is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to implement commissioning for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and related systems on midwest projects. The role involves up to 75% travel, with work-from-home options when not testing, and potential office placement near a major airport.

You will verify designs, review documents, plan meetings, and lead testing with senior staff guidance when needed. Chicago-area role with regional focus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or building science plus two years of relevant experience, or 5 years equivalent work in MEP systems.
• FE exam and on track for PE; LEED AP and commissioning certs preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; timely and courteous service to clients.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage large project files and correspondence.
• Knowledge of MEP systems installation and operation.

Responsibilities

• Verify that systems are designed, installed, and operate to design criteria.
• Review MEP design docs, submittals, and sequences of operation for conformance.
• Plan, chair, and document commissioning meetings.
• Write detailed system checklists and functional tests for each system.
• Conduct site walks and create observation reports.
• Direct onsite testing and monitoring of complex systems.
• Track and resolve issues with contractors and owners.
• Create professional reports and project deliverables.
• Lead commissioning teams on less complex projects; mentor staff on complex ones.
