Job summary

Waste Resource Management is offering an Accounting Intern position in Houston, TX designed for a motivated student to gain practical exposure to daily accounting tasks, reconciliations, and financial reporting within a growing environmental services company.

You'll work with a mentor throughout a 10–12 week program, participate in team meetings, and complete a capstone project that identifies an improvement to an accounting process and presents findings to leadership.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled full-time as a Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of accounting and financial principles.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
• Must be living in the Houston, Texas area for the duration of the internship program.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day accounting and financial activities.
• Support account reconciliations and review financial information for accuracy.
• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end activities as assigned.
• Support financial data collection, analysis, and reporting.
• Assist with maintaining accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
• Review accounting processes and workflows to identify potential opportunities for improvement.
• Participate in Accounting and Finance team meetings and cross-functional business discussions.
• Assist with special projects related to accounting, financial reporting, process improvement, and business operations.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and summaries for Accounting and Finance leadership.
• Work with an assigned mentor to gain practical knowledge of the accounting profession and develop professional skills.
• Complete a capstone project focused on creating a measurable and impactful improvement to an accounting process.
• Present capstone findings, recommendations, and anticipated business impact to company leadership at the conclusion of the internship.
