Job summary

Waste Resource Management, Inc. in Houston, TX, is offering an Accounting Intern position within its growing Accounting and Finance team for a 10–12 week internship.

The role provides hands-on exposure to real-world accounting processes, financial reporting, data analysis, reconciliations, and business operations. You will be paired with a mentor, complete a capstone project to improve an accounting process, and present findings to leadership.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled full-time as a Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of accounting and financial principles.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
• Willingness to learn, ask questions, receive feedback, and take initiative.
• Must be living in the Houston, Texas area for the duration of the internship program

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day accounting and financial activities.
• Support account reconciliations and review financial information for accuracy.
• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end activities as assigned.
• Support financial data collection, analysis, and reporting.
• Assist with maintaining accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
• Review accounting processes and workflows to identify potential opportunities for improvement.
• Participate in Accounting and Finance team meetings and cross-functional business discussions.
• Assist with special projects related to accounting, financial reporting, process improvement, and business operations.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and summaries for Accounting and Finance leadership.
• Work with an assigned mentor to gain practical knowledge of the accounting profession and develop professional skills.
• Complete a capstone project focused on creating a measurable and impactful improvement to an accounting process.
• Present capstone findings, recommendations, and anticipated business impact to company leadership at the conclusion of the internship.

POSITION SUMMARY:

WRM is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Intern to participate in a 10–12 week internship program supporting the company's Accounting and Finance functions. This internship provides hands‑on exposure to real‑world accounting processes, financial reporting, data analysis, reconciliations, and business operations within a growing environmental services organization.

The selected intern will work alongside experienced accounting professionals and will be paired with a mentor throughout the program to provide guidance, professional development, and hands‑on learning opportunities.

As a key component of the internship, the Accounting Intern will complete a capstone project focused on identifying an opportunity to make a measurable and impactful improvement to an existing accounting process. At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will present their findings and recommendations to company leadership.

Physical Requirements

This role primarily operates in a professional office environment. The intern may occasionally participate in company site tours or operational visits and may be required to wear appropriate PPE while visiting operational facilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
