Job summary

West Virginia K-12 Jobs seeks a mentor for the Beginning Teacher Mentorship program. The position is contract/hourly, with a year-long assignment and semester-to-semester mentor placement, requiring completion of WV mentor training.

Preference is given to teachers with the Master Mentor Teacher Advanced Credential. A mentor stipend of $300 per semester is provided, with coordination through the state department of education.

Qualifications

• Must have or complete mentor course offered through WV State Department of Education before end of mentorship.
• Preference for teachers at the same school, teaching the same or similar subject and grade level as the beginning teacher.
• Mentor training institute prior to or during the first semester of such assignment.

Responsibilities

• Mentor beginning teachers for a year-long mentorship, assigned semester-to-semester.
• Support mentees in pedagogy, classroom management and professional growth.
• Coordinate with the school and WV DOE to ensure compliance with mentor program requirements.

Preference for teachers at the same school, teaching the same or similar subject and grade level as the beginning teacher. Mentor must have completed the WV Center for Professional Development's mentor training institute prior to or during the first semester of such assignment. Preference given to those teachers holding the Master Mentor Teacher Advanced Credential. EMPLOYMENT TERM: The Beginning Teacher Mentorship is a year-long experience, completed in the semester increments. The mentor is assigned on a semester-to-semester basis pending the placement of the beginning teacher.
SALARY $300 per Mentor per semester - Job description available from the personnel office
***Each Faculty Senate shall have an opportunity to make recommendations on the selection of faculty to serve as mentors for beginning teachers under beginning teacher internship programs at the school (18-5A-5)
