Job summary

West Virginia K-12 Jobs in West Virginia seeks experienced teachers to mentor beginning teachers in the Beginning Teacher Mentorship program. The mentor guides the new educator through a year-long experience, with assignments renewed each semester based on placement needs.

Compensation is $300 per mentor per semester. Mentors must complete the WV Center for Professional Development mentor training; Master Mentor Teacher Advanced Credential preferred. This is an equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Must have completed the WV State Department mentor training institute before or during the first semester of the assignment.
• Preference for teachers holding the Master Mentor Teacher Advanced Credential.
• Must be willing to participate in mentor coursework offered through WVDOE before mentorship ends.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance to a beginning teacher for a year-long mentorship.
• Mentor assignments are made semester-to-semester based on placement needs.
• Support and document progress as part of the Beginning Teacher Mentorship program.

Application Procedure:

Preference for teachers at the same school, teaching the same or similar subject and grade level as the beginning teacher. Mentor must have completed the WV Center for Professional Development’s mentor training institute prior to or during the first semester of such assignment. Preference given to those teachers holding the Master Mentor Teacher Advanced Credential. EMPLOYMENT TERM: The Beginning Teacher Mentorship is a year-long experience, completed in the semester increments. The mentor is assigned on a semester-to-semester basis pending the placement of the beginning teacher.

SALARY $300 per Mentor per semester – Job description available from the personnel office

***Each Faculty Senate shall have an opportunity to make recommendations on the selection of faculty to serve as mentors for beginning teachers under beginning teacher internship programs at the school (18-5A-5)
