Job summary

West Virginia K-12 Jobs is seeking mentors for the Beginning Teacher Mentorship program. Mentors will guide beginning teachers through a year-long experience, assigned semester-to-semester based on placements at the school.

Preference given to mentors already trained through WV State Department of Education and those holding the Master Mentor Teacher Advanced Credential. The program offers a stipend per semester and requires completion of mandatory mentor coursework.

Qualifications

• Must have WV Center for Professional Development mentor training institute experience.
• Preference for those with Master Mentor Teacher Advanced Credential.

Responsibilities

• Provide mentorship to beginning teachers for a year in semester increments.
• Coordinate with the school and personnel office for placement and support.
• Complete mentor coursework before end of mentorship period.

Job description

Application Procedure:

Preference for teachers at the same school, teaching the same or similar subject and grade level as the beginning teacher. Mentor must have completed the WV Center for Professional Development’s mentor training institute prior to or during the first semester of such assignment. Preference given to those teachers holding the Master Mentor Teacher Advanced Credential. EMPLOYMENT TERM: The Beginning Teacher Mentorship is a year-long experience, completed in the semester increments. The mentor is assigned on a semester-to-semester basis pending the placement of the beginning teacher.

SALARY $300 per Mentor per semester – Job description available from the personnel office

***Each Faculty Senate shall have an opportunity to make recommendations on the selection of faculty to serve as mentors for beginning teachers under beginning teacher internship programs at the school (18-5A-5)
