West Virginia K-12 Jobs administers a Beginning Teacher Mentorship program in collaboration with the WV State Department of Education. Mentors are selected to guide beginning teachers, with preference for those already sharing the same school, subject, and grade level.
The mentor earns $300 per semester, and candidates must complete a mentor course before the mentorship ends. Participation follows a semester-to-semester assignment and requires training institute completion.
Application Procedure:
Preference for teachers at the same school, teaching the same or similar subject and grade level as the beginning teacher. Mentor must have completed the WV Center for Professional Development’s mentor training institute prior to or during the first semester of such assignment. Preference given to those teachers holding the Master Mentor Teacher Advanced Credential. EMPLOYMENT TERM: The Beginning Teacher Mentorship is a year-long experience, completed in the semester increments. The mentor is assigned on a semester-to-semester basis pending the placement of the beginning teacher.

***Each Faculty Senate shall have an opportunity to make recommendations on the selection of faculty to serve as mentors for beginning teachers under beginning teacher internship programs at the school (18-5A-5)
