Morgan County Schools is seeking a Mentor Teacher for Warm Springs Middle School in Berkeley Springs, WV. This is an on-an-as/if-needed basis position with a focus on supporting and guiding a beginning teacher throughout the school year.

Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Mentor Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:Must complete the WVDE Mentor Training
1. A recommendation of 5 years of successful teaching experience with consideration given to a Master’s Degree and location within the same building as the new teacher.
2. A recommendation from the teacher’s principal including favorable evaluations.
3. A positive and supportive attitude toward the school and persons who make up the school community.
4. Is innovative and is willing to try new instructional techniques.
5. Is an effective teacher and relates well to students and colleagues.
6. Complete/participate in the TESA (Teacher Expectations Student Achievement) Training.
* 7. Agrees to schedule joint planning periods with the beginning teacher.
* 8. Agrees to observe the beginning teacher one hour per week during the first half of the school year and one hour every two weeks during the second half of the school year.
* 9. Agrees to weekly meetings with the beginning teacher to discuss beginning teacher’s performance. This may take place during joint planning periods.
* 10. Agrees to participate in monthly meetings of the professional support team which is comprised of:
a. school principal
b. county staff development council member
c. mentor teacher
* 11. The mentor teacher will be paid a yearly stipend of six hundred dollars.
12. Preference will be given to assigning a mentor within the same school as the new teacher.
