Job summary

West Virginia K-12 Jobs is seeking a Beginning Teacher Mentor for Grade 5 at Jane Lew Elementary School in Lewis County, WV. This role supports an incoming intern through orientation, weekly observations, and regular professional meetings within the internship term.

Qualified candidates will hold a valid West Virginia teaching certificate and have at least five years of teaching experience with satisfactory evaluations over the past five years.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience.
• Satisfactory evaluations for the past five (5) years.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver an orientation program for the beginning intern to be conducted prior to the beginning of the instructional term, but within the employment term.
• Observe the classroom teaching skills of the beginning intern for at least one-hour per week during the first half of the mentoring program and which may be reduced at the discretion of the mentor to one-hour every two-weeks during the second half of the mentoring program.
• Conduct weekly meetings with the beginning intern to discuss the performance of the beginning intern and any improvements.
• Conduct monthly meetings of the professional support team to discuss the performance of the beginning intern
• Complete and submit all paperwork, as requested, relating to the beginning internship program
• Must attend any state required county/state training sessions
• Internship must consist of two full semesters
