Job summary

Hudson Regional Health in Hoboken, NJ, seeks a Mental Health Technician to observe and assist patients on the psychiatric unit during the evening shift (3pm–11:30pm) with rotating Saturdays and Sundays. You will support daily living activities, participate in group therapy, and help maintain a safe therapeutic environment.

Required education is a BA/BS in Psychology or related field with 2–4 years of experience; AHA BLS is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work or related field.
• 2–4 years related experience in mental health or healthcare setting.
• AHA BLS certification preferred and beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Observe and assist assigned mental health patients and help with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment on the psychiatric unit and protect patients and staff.
• Attend group therapy, in-service education and staff meetings.
• Record patient information including vital signs, weight, glucose monitoring, and behavior.
• Communicate with patients' families as needed.

Main Functions

• Observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization.
• Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
• Attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings.
• Performs and records information about patients including vital signs, weight, glucose monitoring, and demeanor.
• May communicate with the patient's family as needed.

Education & Experience

• Education: BA/BS in Psychology, Social Work or related field
• Experience: At least 2-4 years related experience
• Qualification: AHA BLS preferred
