Job summary

Stars Behavioral Health Group seeks a Mental Health Specialist II for our MLK Crisis Residential Treatment program in Los Angeles. The role involves clinical treatment teamwork within a 16-bed, short-term residential facility offering 24/7 intensive care, with supervision under the Clinical Supervisor.

The MHS II conducts assessments, develops treatment plans, coordinates discharge planning, and supports clients’ physical and psychosocial needs, including admissions and referrals.

Qualifications

• Education: Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related mental health field.
• Driver's License: Valid California Driver's License with a driving record that meets company eligibility policies.
• First Aid: Current First Aid certification from an approved agency (such as the American Red Cross) or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assess clients at the start of treatment, review as needed, and develop treatment plans.
• Conduct family collateral and discharge planning.
• Provide direct care to meet physical and psychosocial needs of clients.
• Engage in admission and diagnostic formulation and screen incoming referrals.

Education & Compliance | Required for all levels:

Licensure Requirements

• Mental Health Specialist II (MHS II): Active registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) as an Associate (AMFT, ACSW, or APCC).
• Mental Health Specialist III (MHS III): Active licensure with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) as a Licensed clinician (LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC).

How You Will Make a Difference (Job Overview)

This position assesses clients at the start of treatment (reviews as needed), develops and maintains treatment plans, and conducts family collateral and discharge planning. The MHS II is a clinical treatment team member who is also responsible for providing direct care to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the clients through direct and indirect physical and verbal interaction. MHS II will also be engaged in admission and diagnostic formulation, screening incoming referrals, and work with referring parties (i.e. Social Workers, Nurses, hospital liaisons and etc.) to ensure appropriate client care and treatment planning. Duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, but some tasks are accomplished independently.
