Job summary

MAS Community Health in Maine is seeking Mental Health Support Specialists to work with adults in and around Stonington. You will provide one-on-one support following each client’s person-centered plan in home and community settings.

The role involves helping clients secure housing, scheduling appointments, arranging transportation, teaching coping strategies, and supporting daily living skills, with a patient, communicative, and resourceful approach.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness is preferred.
  • Basic comfort with smartphone apps and email; able to complete electronic documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one support and supervision to adults living with severe mental illness.
  • Help clients secure stable housing and schedule appointments.
  • Provide safe, reliable transportation and teach coping strategies for anxiety.
  • Support daily living skills such as budgeting or managing a checkbook.
  • Encourage clients as they work toward their goals.

What You'll Do

As a Mental Health Support Specialist, you'll provide one-on-one support and supervision to adults living with severe and persistent mental illness, helping them work toward greater independence. Support takes place in clients' homes and in the surrounding community, following each client's individualized, person-centered plan. Your work may include:

  • Helping clients complete steps toward securing stable housing
  • Assisting clients in scheduling appointments and providing safe, reliable transportation
  • Teaching coping strategies for anxiety and other mental health challenges
  • Supporting daily living skills, like budgeting or managing a checkbook
  • Providing encouragement as clients work toward their goals

This role is a great fit for someone patient, communicative, and resourceful — someone who finds it rewarding to walk alongside clients as they grow.

What You'll Need
  • 1+ year of experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Reliable transportation, active insurance, and current vehicle registration
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic comfort with smartphone apps and email, and ability to complete electronic documentation (e.g., daily session notes) — training provided
