Job summary

MAS Community Health in Maine is seeking a Mental Health Support Specialist to provide one-on-one support to adults living with severe mental illness in homes and community settings around Mt Desert Island.

You will work toward greater independence, following individualized, person-centered plans, with training provided and a focus on helping clients access housing, appointments, and transportation.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Reliable transportation, active insurance, and current vehicle registration.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• High school diploma or equivalent; ability to complete electronic documentation.

Responsibilities

• Helping clients complete steps toward securing stable housing.
• Assisting clients in scheduling appointments and providing safe, reliable transportation.
• Teaching coping strategies for anxiety and other mental health challenges.
• Supporting daily living skills, like budgeting or managing a checkbook.
• Providing encouragement as clients work toward their goals.

What You'll Do

As a Mental Health Support Specialist, you'll provide one-on-one support and supervision to adults living with severe and persistent mental illness, helping them work toward greater independence. Support takes place in clients' homes and in the surrounding community, following each client's individualized, person-centered plan. Your work may include:

• Helping clients complete steps toward securing stable housing
• Assisting clients in scheduling appointments and providing safe, reliable transportation
• Teaching coping strategies for anxiety and other mental health challenges
• Supporting daily living skills, like budgeting or managing a checkbook
• Providing encouragement as clients work toward their goals
