Job summary

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center is seeking a Mental Health Assistant to support patient care within a dynamic hospital environment in New Jersey. The role focuses on essential nursing assistant tasks, coordination with nurses, and maintaining patient dignity and safety.

You will assist with ADLs, monitor vitals, perform specimen collection, and help execute treatments under RN direction, while upholding infection control standards and patient rights.

Qualifications

• Heartsaver/CPR Certification is required.
• Strong administrative skills are essential for coordinating patient care.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must be computer literate and able to operate hospital systems.
• Fluent English in speaking and writing as required by the role.
• Nurse’s Aide training or equivalent preferred; high school diploma required.

Responsibilities

• Take and record vital signs (TPR) and report deviations to the nurse.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and mobility.
• Collect specimens as assigned (e.g., urine, stool, sputum).
• Maintain clean patient areas and proper infection control practices.
• Communicate patient needs to Charge Nurse/Primary Nurse and coordinate care.
• Assist with patient transport and routine unit operations as directed.
