Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• High School graduate or GED.
• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Human Service field preferred.
• Successful passage of the written Cape Cod Hospital Mental Health Specialist exam (study guide provided).
• Must meet at least one of the follow qualifications: one year of mental health worker experience or direct patient care in relevant settings.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire and de-escalation course completion within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Performs standard treatment procedures and activities (vital signs, preparing patient rooms, meals, and daily living activities).
• Performs contraband checks under RN direction.
• Keeps patient information confidential per policies and regulations.
• Maintains therapeutic environment in collaboration with health care team.
• Observes and reports patient safety and behavior concerns to the RN.
• Assists in crisis management during emergencies.
• Supports admissions process and behavioral health care documentation.
• Facilitates and participates in programs and groups.
• Escorts patients to units and departments as needed.
• Contributes to interdisciplinary treatment planning.
• Maintains clean and safe environment and reports equipment issues.
• Participates in process improvement activities and continuing education.
