Job summary

Sylmar Health and Rehabilitation Center, a residential mental health treatment facility, seeks a Mental Health Worker/Counselor to facilitate group and individual counseling, complete documentation, and encourage residents’ participation in daily activities while monitoring safety.

The role involves leading groups, performing therapy sessions, attending staff meetings, and handling daily duties with professionalism and compassion. Prior MH/substance use experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.
• Experience in mental health and substance abuse populations preferred but not required.
• Ability to document accurately and monitor resident safety.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Professional, respectful demeanor with residents.

Responsibilities

• Act as a group leader for an assigned caseload.
• Conduct group therapy and individual counseling as needed.
• Complete all required paperwork (weekly, monthly reports, etc).
• Manage the daily activities of the residents.
• Attendance at all mandatory staff and in-service meetings.
• Performance of all assigned daily duties.
• Monitoring Resident safety.
• Crisis intervention and management.
• Performance of all other duties requested by supervisor.
