The Raritan Bay Area YMCA – Mental Health Department is seeking a full-time Mental Health Clinician.

The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has served as a pillar in the community of Perth Amboy and beyond. Today the Y impact continues to grow as programming in our three Areas of Focus: Healthy Living, Youth Development, and Social Responsibility.

The Department of Mental Health Services is committed to providing quality, equitable mental and behavioral health and social support services for individuals of all ages.

Under the supervision of the Director of Mental Health Services and Mental Health Program Director, the Mental Health Clinician will provide therapeutic intervention including client intake, assessment, treatment planning, weekly therapy/counseling, advocacy, and discharge/transition services. Services may be provided in-office and/or virtually to meet client needs. Counseling may take place in individual, group, and/or family settings. All documentation must be completed accurately and timely.

Essential Duties
  • Conduct intake interviews and assessments, create and implement treatment and behavioral plans.
  • Utilize evidence-based interventions to conduct weekly therapy sessions supporting client/family treatment goals.
  • Maintain updated and accurate client files using electronic health record software, including intake, progress, treatment, discharge, and other documentation.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to assist individuals and families managing mental health, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with clients, families, and stakeholders, responding promptly to requests and communications.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence when serving diverse populations.
  • Follow ethical guidelines and practices.
  • Support clients in crisis towards stabilization or referral to higher care levels.
  • Manage discharge and transition ethically, connecting clients to natural and community resources.
  • Participate in supervision and consultation as required.
  • Set personal goals for self-improvement and professional development, including obtaining relevant certifications.
  • Attend staff and other meetings as needed.
Position Details
  • Full-Time, 40 hours/week, Monday – Friday, 9:00AM-5:30PM, with possible evening/weekend hours.

Requirements
  • Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
  • Active NJ State Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or Marriage & Family License (LAC, LPC, LSW, LCSW, LMFT, PhD).
  • Experience with youth development, underserved, multicultural, and multilingual populations.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based therapy modalities.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Reliability and punctuality, ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong relationship-building, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Successful passing of state and federal background checks.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Record systems.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
  • Experience with ID/DD/ASD populations is a plus.
