Gerdau Ameristeel Corp. in Monroe, MI, is seeking a General Turn Facilitator to lead safety, environmental, production, cost, and quality initiatives in the Melt Shop.

The role focuses on standardizing processes, coaching teams, implementing preventive maintenance, 5S and ITS training, and driving continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Qualifications

• Two year college degree in Engineering, Business Administration or Material Science plus 4–6 years in industrial/manufacturing environment.
• Experience with steel manufacturing methods and heavy mill machinery is preferred.
• In lieu of a degree, additional years of manufacturing experience may be considered.

This position is responsible for providing leadership guidance on establishing a productive, high performing, and safety conscious working environment. The major role of this job is to focus on all aspects related to safety, environmental, production, cost, quality, and people management through the continuous application of GBS principles for the Melt Shop department.The major role of this job is to ensure routine management efforts are followed and opportunities for improvement in processes, products, and production within the area of responsibility are identified.

The General Turn Facilitator is responsible for ensuring standardization of processes within the area of responsibility. These duties will include needs assessments, auditing, coaching of production/quality improvement programs and standards, ITS training, 5S improvements, development and implementation of cost and environmental control goals, development and implementation of new and current preventive maintenance and safety management processes and procedures.

Qualifications for this position include a two year college degree in Engineering, Business Administration or Material Science combined with 4 to 6 years experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment with exposure to standardization and production quality methods. In lieu of a degree, additional years experience in manufacturing can be considered. Incumbent must have a working knowledge of the steel manufacturing methods and techniques involving the use of heavy mill machinery and related equipment. Previous qualifying experience in the Melt Shop operations a must. Successful candidate will demonstrate a basic knowledge of the business system and the use of complex technical and engineering processes. Requires the ability to train and guide people. The incumbent should possess solid presentation abilities combined with good interpersonal and organizational skills. People management skills a must..

This position directly reports to the Melt Shop Superintendent.The incumbent must perform the above mentioned duties and responsibilities in accordance with all Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations. Employees must also report any situation that may have a detrimental impact to human health or the environment to their immediate supervisor.
